Really good movie

The prediction of the world population in 25 years was very close. Mao predicted 6 billion and it turned out to be 5.6 billion. That is based on this movie dated 1969 and therefore the 25-year prediction for the year 1994. We didn't tick over 6 billion until the year 1999. By the way, this was rather remarkable as the world population was only approximately 3.5 billion when this film was made. The Chinese one-child policy was implemented in 1980 and ended in 2015. China is now facing a serious unintended consequences of firstly a marked gender imbalance and now a rapidly shirking and aging population and all that entails. There is no remedy in sight. This ill-conceived and completely foreseeable calamity may end up making The Great Leap Forward look like a minor miscalculation.

Enjoyed the movie and great seeing Sir Roger Moore and all the kitties. Thank you for posting this film!

Historical note: the reason there were people selling apples on the street like 'Apple Annie,' is because the water supply in big cities like New York was unsafe. There were no public water fountains with pure, safe, drinkable water. (Water sources for horses might not be clean enough for humans to risk drinking from them.) If you were out in the city - for example, as one of the peddlers who pushed a cart around selling goods, or shopping, or just walking from place to place - and you got thirsty, there was often no place to go to get a drink. You could go into a bar and buy alcohol... unless you were a lady or too young, or a teetotaler, or just didn't want to drink alcohol or couldn't afford the cost of a drink in a bar or didn't have time to stop for a drink. Restaurants would require you to buy something to eat if you wanted something to drink. There might not be a bar or restaurant anywhere nearby. If you were thirsty, buying an apple for a few cents would quench your thirst because when you chew an apple, it effectively turns almost totally to liquid. In short, apples were the equivalent of a water bottle: portable thirst-quenchers. Apple vendors did a good business in safely quenching the thirst of people out in public in New York City.
